Bainbridge Island

Today we went up to Bainbridge Island. The channel on the south end of the island is sandwiched between Bainbridge and Port Orchard. It is the main ferry route between Seattle and Bremerton...
...so it's pretty deep...

...and we were lucky enough to see a baby gray whale cruising by.

It seemed to take the same route as the ferry.
Looking south to Port Orchard, watching the ferry...

...then checking out the intertidal creatures.

Point Defiance

It was a beautiful Thursday and the animals at the zoo were beckoning for a visit.

Animals by the names of Lilly Joy and Lucas Kaikane.

Watching the show.

Everyone was out soaking in the sunshine.

There were lots of school kids out on a field trip, But Lucas and Lilly managed to squeeze their way in.

The otters were hours of entertainment.

But, in my opinion, the polar bears gave the best show:)

Sunflower Stars

We went out to Joemma Beach for another super low tide. We found Sunflower Stars everywhere.

It was a sunflower fest!

Anderson Point

Lucas and I took Daddy and Aunt Jana to our new favorite beach on Sunday.

Its a beautiful walk down to a sandy point.

Aunt Jana taking a breather.

The joys of finding a lady bug.

Trying to get a decent picture of the two of us.

We never try to get a decent picture.

Lucas rarely lets us get a decent picture.

King of the beach.

Walking back up the trail, the king runs in to Stinging Nettle.

The dreaded plant grows all along this trail. He was warned, but we figured it was only a matter of time.

The trauma of it all put him right to sleep.

Pizza cures everything.

Joemma Beach State Park

Lucas and I had to vacate the house yesterday so Randy could study for his re-qualifications test without disturbance. So we went to the beach! Joemma Beach - beautiful park with lots of beach combing and trails.

We had a wonderful morning exploring the beach.

Little stinker loves to get wet and dirty.

Checking out the scene.

Looking for crabs.
Don't mess with me!

Crabs.

Low tide - great for digging in the mud.

Lucas the Explorer.

Time to go. But with Lucas, it takes awhile to get back to the car.

He always likes to stop and smell the flowers.

Spring is here...finally.

It's been a week of Spring - rain, wind, clouds, and sun. So we've been taking advantage of every sunny moment this week to get outside and soak up the rays.

Spring training!

Randy built Lucas a little "T" and showed him how to "swing".

We took a walk in McCormick Forest Park.

Lucas filled his basket with nothing but rocks, then I had to carry it.

We found a new beach near the house - Anderson Point County Park.

Lucas collected lots of "teeny tiny pine cones".

It was a perfect little sandy beach and very private. Loved it.

Picking up Daddy at the ferry, found it was low tide. So we walked down to the little beach. Lucas feeding seagulls.

Normally, I would never condone feeding birds, but another little boy was there feeding them, Lucas walked right up to his mother and asked her for some bread. It got scary for a minute there, seagulls can be pretty vicious. I don't recommend this activity! But, he did enjoy it. He loves birds.
Here's to the start of great weather in the Great Pacific Northwest, and to lots of outdoor adventures.
