Bowling

Memorial Day weekend was cold and rainy, so we didn't go camping like we had planned. But, we had fun none-the-less. Did a bunch of random stuff around town, made lots of good food, hung around the house, and for the first time - went bowling!

We went Sunday evening - so there were plenty of open lanes.

Lucas caught on how to play real quick.

He enjoyed it, but gave up after frame 6 or 7.

His little shoes were the cutest.

Yeah, that's right, I got 3 strikes in a row! Too bad it wasn't during the game.

Its been a long time since any of us have bowled, but I think we will now be going more often. It was good family fun.

Penrose Point State Park

Saturday we stayed around the house, did some chores, and had some of Randy's work buddies over for a BBQ. So, Sunday we decided to, of course, go to the beach for another exceptional low tide exploration. I haven't been tide pooling like this in 10+ years and it is sooo nice to get back out there as often as we have been in a place that is worthy of National Park status - our home.

The exposed point waaay out there in the upper left.

On the walk out, a bald eagle gave us a really good show, swooped down and caught a fish, sat on this rock and ate it. Quite amazing.
These birds are so big, I wish this picture could give you a better scale of how large they really are.

The place was covered in moon snail egg casings, we were trying so hard to find one...

Randy found two. These things have a huge body.

An empty moon snail shell.

Sculpin

I think the best part for Lucas was taking off his wet pants, boots, and socks, and running around in the grass.

Kopachuck State Park

The beautiful weekend started with a morning out at Kopachuck with Malinda and Lilly Joy. The tide was low and the critters were out.

The Oyster beds were fully exposed so Lucas and I took advantage and learned a little about local oyster collection. Can't take the shell - only the slimy critter.

My goal this summer is to rent some kayaks and paddle out to the island.

The kids enjoying the mud, Lilly closely examining the cascade of wet sand.

Brave Malinda picked up a Red Rock Crab - these creatures are heavy.

And they have some serious claws.
Great morning out at the park - We're going to be camping here Memorial Day weekend - the next low tide:)

Mother's Day Weekend

The weekend was sunny and beautiful. We enjoyed time together, swimming in the hot tub, BBQing, hiking and tide pooling, and lots of R&R.

At the northern tip of Port Orchard there's an old-growth forest Preserve.

Wynn Jones Preserve -

Lucas really loves hiking this trail because it is a winding, narrow, dense trail and he can cruise right along.

Lucas was the leader.
Looking out for bears:)

There is also access to the water, which I always love.

We found lots of anemones, crabs, and chitons.

A great way to end the day.
